Friday Tour

From 2 to 7 guests, departing at 9.30 from a specified pick up spot, the Sunday tour visits 4 outstanding gardens, finishing with delicious refreshments in the beautiful settings of one of the gardens of the day.

Simple country garden. Maungawera valley

Developed over 15 years in a tranquil valley with outstanding mountain views, the gardens are created around the existing vegetation and original contours of the landscape. Existing natives have been kept and interplanted with a variety of non-natives, creating a haven for birds. With extensives borders around the house, veggie raised beds, several ponds and even a short walk to a view point, this garden is an epitome of a lifestyle property landscape.

High Country Garden. Lake Hawea

Set in a unique location overlooking Lake Hawea, this property displays several hedges, a rhododendron glen, a native area, veggie patch and lots of specimen trees. Dotted with interesting and surprising plants in spite of our harsh climate, this garden complements the breathtaking background of Lake Hawea  and surrounding mountains.

The Paddock

Originally a neglected moraine land, The Paddock has been transformed in the past 15 years into a one acre country style garden with a beautiful backdrop of mountains and hills.

The garden is a mix of plants and items providing interest all year round, texture and colour abound in this  healthy ecosystem: includes a large variety of bulbs, flowering shrubs, native and deciduous trees, potager, tunnel house, berries and orchard.

Lifestyle block garden. Wanaka

This one-hectare garden was formed from a paddock over a thirty-year period and is framed by spectacular mountain views. The owners developed this garden while owning a local plant nursery, creating an unusual and interesting collection of plants which survive in our cold winters.

The emphasis is on perennials and on trees and shrubs that show brilliant Autumn colourings.

Please note that these are private gardens. Occasionally, circumstances may necessitate alternative gardens to be viewed.
